Dahil sa paglutang ni Lozada…
February 10th, 2008 by kwentongbayan
(a. Nakakamiss din yung wooden swing!!! b. Nakakamiss kapag dumarating si Diday na pretty girl na anak ng boss namin at kakanta kami ng Cool With You na may blending pa!)
Di bale nang walang social life. Yung professional life na ang nagiging social life mo.
So eto. (Malacanang, show us the money!!!) Lech.

First Bug (Should Die)
February 7th, 2008 by kwentongbayan
After only almost four months, I’ve finally encountered my first Mac bug.
This is through my superbeloved baby Ipod Classic 80gb (where all of what could have been my entire life’s savings went to) (Ohshiyet, dejavu itong pagtatype ko na ‘to about this topic…shyet. So this was planned….)
Nidrain ko lang ang battery because I never charge unless it’s empty (but when I sync it automatically charges, so kumusta naman). So eh di ayon, nagchacharge na (the usual apple logo when a charger is detected even appeared). But when I went back after some four hours to check, gudlak…the screen is garbled. Only lines of all sorts of colors could be seen. But the clicks of the scroll can still be heard. And it was still able to play the first song in the playlists (A1 - Caught in the Middle) - Oo meron ako nito! Bat ba!
Takte. Before the ipod (and before I was able to save up for it), my Sony walkman was my life. (No music, no life). Just imagine kung pano muntik gumuho ang mundo ko upon seeing the LCD all garbled. Lech!!!
Wala namang nangyaring masama sa kanya. Never ko pa sya nabagsak. Never nabunggo. Any press of the buttons won’t work. (I learned from somewhere that Mac’s version of ctrl+alt+del is menu+center button). But it won’t work!!!
So I tried plugging it sa laptop. It got detected and even updated all the new songs and videos i added. Pero garbled pa din sya.
I always had this belief na I always, always have a way around techie problems. And I haven’t really failed (except when my work computer’s motherboard crashed).
Restart, unplug. Plug again. There. Gudlak.
So now i’m trying to restore it with the latest software (which two weeks ago did not work, so I switched back to the original version). I checked some forums and many have complained (or at least nag-rant) about this. Thank God for the forums. At least I don’t feel alone.
Kinontact ko na yung pinagbilhan ko. Pag di to gumana I swear i should get a replacement. Mamamatay ako kapag hinde.
Sana magwork ang restore. I have firm belief on restore options. It always works for my windows problems. But this is Mac now that I’m dealing with.
Sabi ko na eh. Ayoko talaga ng Mac. hay.
Bakit ganon? No matter how careful you are, despite taking all possible safety precautions, things are bound to get broken. Hay.
Keeping my fingers crossed.

Catching up on movies I missed
January 13th, 2008 by kwentongbayan
I went DVD shopping just before Christmas and finally got hold of two movies that I have missed, that everybody is raving about. Devil Wears Prada and Stardust. Kerek. I’m such a looossuurrh.
So ayun nga, eh di in-on ko na yung TV pati yung DVD player. Eh di nag-on na nga…toooot…
Devil Wears Prada. Sobrang taas lang siguro ng expectations ko. When it was shown i thought it was that sort of teeny bopper. Probably because may hangover pa ako ng Princess Diaries. At naamaze talaga ako na it merited a nomination for Emily Blunt, and nothing less than an Oscar for Meryl Streep.
But I was quite disappointed with the ending. I think I still wish some cheesy moments, perhaps Miranda confessing to have started as some struggling newbie like Andrea. But the film was just cold and blunt. The Devil simply is a devil. But it’s good. I liked it still.
Stardust. I used to be a big fan of Claire Danes. Haha. kaya sobrang nakakatuwa ang kanyang comeback playing major roles in notable movies. And yeah, I still am a fan. But not as big as before. Haha.
Sobra akong natuwa sa Stardust. Simple lang ang mga twist pero nakakaaliw. It’s not trying to be complicated just for the sake of being complicated. May fairy tale feel pa sya para sa akin, in a more sophisticated level. Neil Gaiman pa ito (na hindi ko pa nabasa ever because Ive always had the impression na he’s a complicated reading). Which tells me I should start reading him.
Waddahell? At wala si Charlie Cox sa billing. Banking on the big names lang talaga.
Saka syempre, it all boils down to love.
(Yvaine talking to Tristan who was turned into a mouse by the witch mistess of his mother)
What I’m trying to say Tristan, is, I think I love you. My heart, it feels like my chest can barely contain it. Like it doesn’t belong to me anymore, it belongs to you. And if you wanted it, I’d wish for nothing in exchange. No gifts. No goods. No demonstrations of devotion. Nothing but knowing you loved me too. Just you heart, in exchange of mine.
Yaaay! Sana pwedeng maging daga ang ibang tao. Yun na.

Lack of sleep may be deadly
September 24th, 2007 by kwentongbayan
Lack of sleep may be deadly, research shows
People who do not get enough sleep are more than twice as likely to die of heart disease, according to a large British study released on Monday.
Although the reasons are unclear, researchers said lack of sleep appeared to be linked to increased blood pressure, which is known to raise the risk of heart attacks and stroke.
A 17-year analysis of 10,000 government workers showed those who cut their sleeping from seven hours a night to five or less faced a 1.7-fold increased risk in mortality from all causes and more than double the risk of cardiovascular death.
The findings highlight a danger in busy modern lifestyles, Francesco Cappuccio, professor of cardiovascular medicine at the University of Warwick’s medical school, told the annual conference of the British Sleep Society in Cambridge.
"A third of the population of the UK and over 40 percent in the U.S. regularly sleep less than five hours a night, so it is not a trivial problem," he said in a telephone interview.
"The current pressures in society to cut out sleep, in order to squeeze in more, may not be a good idea — particularly if you go below five hours."
Previous research has highlighted the potential health risks of shift work and disrupted sleep. But the study by Cappuccio and colleagues, which was supported by British government and U.S. funding, is the first to link duration of sleep and mortality rates.
The study looked at sleep patterns of participants aged 35-55 years at two points in their lives — 1985-88 and 1992-93 — and then tracked their mortality rates until 2004.
The results were adjusted to take account of other possible risk factors such as initial age, sex, smoking and alcohol consumption, body mass index, blood pressure and cholesterol.
The correlation with cardiovascular risk in those who slept less in the 1990s than in the 1980s was clear but, curiously, there was also a higher mortality rate in people who increased their sleeping to more than nine hours.
In this case, however, there was no cardiovascular link and Cappuccio said it was possible that longer sleeping could be related to other health problems such as depression or cancer-related fatigue.
"In terms of prevention, our findings indicate that consistently sleeping around seven hours per night is optimal for health," he said.

I Wish I ws a Punk Rocker
September 16th, 2007 by kwentongbayan
Came across this song by Sandi Thom while channel surfing sa youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEzd58SfOYg It’s a really nice song, minimalist, and kind of jives with how I feel right now, with all worst, stoooopidestzzzz people around, and you can’t complain, nor scream. They stink. They’re hideous in fake designer stuff. And I smell a revolution. With flowers in my hair.
[Chorus:]
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair
In ‘77 and ‘69 revolution was in the air
I was born too late into a world that doesn’t care
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hairWhen the head of state didn’t play guitar
Not everybody drove a car
When music really mattered and when radio was king
When accountants didn’t have control
And the media couldn’t buy your soul
And computers were still scary and we didn’t know everything[Chorus]
When pop stars still remained a myth
And ignorance could still be bliss
And when god saved the queen she turned a whiter shade of pale
My mom and dad were in their teens Instant Song Lyrics
And anarchy was still a dream
And the only way to stay in touch was a letter in the mail[Chorus]
When record shops were still on top
And vinyl was all that they stocked
And the super info highway was still drifting out in space
Kids were wearing hand me downs
And playing games meant kick arounds
And footballers still had long hair and dirt across their face[Chorus]
I was born too late into a world that doesn’t care
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair

RP team wins moot court battle in Japan
The University of the Philippines College of Law bested nine other universities in Asia to emerge as champion of the 2007 Asia Cup International Law Moot Court Competition held in Japan.
The victory of Anna Lorem Ramos, Janice Lee, Maricel Seno and Anya Palileo marks the third time in nine years that UP won the competition sponsored annually by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. UP shares the distinction with the National University of Singapore (NUS). UP prevailed over Ateneo and FEU in the national qualifying rounds to earn the privilege of officially representing the country in Japan.
According to Harry Roque, Director of the UP Institute of International Legal Studies and professor of the four students, the Asia Cup is a prestigious regional moot court competition where law students showcase their skill at both written and oral pleadings. “The team’s victory indicate the students’ strong interest in international law not just for purely academic reasons but for its practical applications as well. The conflict in Mindanao, for example, is a perfect source of application for the law on armed conflict.”
The Asia Cup requires students need to demonstrate their mastery of public international law, humanitarian law, human rights and refugee law in acting as legal counsels arguing before a simulated International Court of Justice.
The panel of judges was composed Dr. Jean-Marie Henckaerts of the International Committee of the Red Cross who is also author of the seminal three volume textbook on International Humanitarian Law, Ambassador Chusei Yamada of the United Nations International Law Commission, Ambassador Tetsuyo Endo of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Dr. Umesh Kadam of the ICRC.
The International Law Moot Court Competition "Asia Cup" is a moot court competition where students from Asian countries contend for their ability in writing memorials and presenting oral pleadings on a fictitious lawsuit case concerning international human rights and humanitarian laws.
It intends to promote of knowledge and understandings of international human rights and humanitarian law, to build and enlarge human networks by inviting Asian promising students and to contribute to protection and enforcement of human rights, not only in Japan but also around the Asian region.

Fear Pressure (Clean Version)
August 28th, 2007 by kwentongbayan
>Cleaning up after somebody else’s mess. (Arrrrgh!)
>People who use "______________" and namedrops _______ like they’re popping a pill.
>Raket, na more of a favor.
>Itlog for breakfast. Itlog for lunch. Itlog for dinner.
>Script for a two hour video…mga bagay na teknikal, hirap maintindihan, pero kailangan.
>Kapraningan sa pagharap sa mga tao mula sa nakaraan…fearing that I’ll be such a loser compared to them
Nothing does a better job of jolting you back to normal than a cold bottle of beer.

Ang bagong Wendy Valdez ng bayan
August 23rd, 2007 by kwentongbayan
(got this from Raz’s blog)
In case you haven’t read…(got this from Raz’s blog)
(Madami nang nagsulat tungkol dito in a span of a few days…ito naman ang sakin. Medyo balahura…wahaha!)
Pero si Wendy madaling patawarin (actually, I think most spectators overreacted to the Wendy Valdez episode). This bitch bigot pig is hard to get over.In case you haven’t read…

Pero si Wendy madaling patawarin (actually, I think most spectators overreacted to the Wendy Valdez episode). This bitch bigot pig is hard to get over.
Malapit pa naman sa puso ko ang mga OFWs (naks!), having worked for an OFW show for almost my entire professional life.
Nag public apology na sya thru a statement, and already filed her resignation from People Asia and Manila Standard (sabi sa Patrol kanina). Pero I think that’s not enough.
For all we know, tumatawa lang ang kanyang matabang burgis na pwet. She rendered an apology. But does she really mean it? I think her Jo Malone stinks big time, nakakabit na sa balat nya ang amoy nito. I don’t think any amount of shower or spray of Axe and Charlie cologne would ever remove its stench, this soon. I doubt if nakaget through na sa kanya ang mensaheng "TANGINAKA!"
Kailangan pa nyan ng matinding pukpukan. Declare her a persona non grata maybe, strip her off of her Filipino citizenship, burn all her make ups and accessories sa harap nya…or at the very least, pasakayin sya ng PNR na nakadungaw sa bintana habang binabato sya sa mukha ng human feces ng lahat ng iskwater.
Sabi nga ni Melanie Marquez, I have two words for you Malu Fernandez: ANG PANGET MO, ANG TABA TABA MO MARE! PAPAYAT KA MUNA!!! Balinkinita? Bwahahaha!!!

Pinakamatinik na Networking
August 22nd, 2007 by kwentongbayan
Ayos pa naman yung idea nya…kase it banked on school based networks. So you get updated when someone from your school, or your batch joins in. And you get connected.
Nung nag sign up ako, mga imbentong email lang ang inilagay ko (nakakatamad to copy paste from my yahoo address book). Napakatalino ng site, dahil nadetect nya na nagbabounce ang email sa mga imbento lang (ibig sabihin, they send it right away to check if the invitation gets received). At kung may nakapagrefer na sa email na binigay mo, it will say "This person was told already" (o di ba, very Pinoy english / pacono syntax).
Ang lupet! Ang higpet! Ang tinek!
Kanina lang, I received a notice that a high school classmate who relocated to Samar, whom we lost contact since we graduated, signed up in namesdatabase. So excited ako to check her profile and send her a message. Pero ako’y nafrustrate nung una, dahil nagexpire na kuno ang aking "credits" (you get some amount of dollars credit for referring friends, entitling you to a year of free membership). Bago ko daw sya masendan ng message, I need to "unlock" namesdatabase. Papano?
By referring more friends.
Apparently, karamihan sa kanila "were told already".
Bwahaha! Vengeance is sweet.
